Modern Corporate Intranet

Background

A mechanical & engineering contractor had a corporate Intranet that was being underutilized due to its limited capabilities and difficulty in accessing needed information. Built using legacy technology, it no longer fit the needs of the company and was not valuable to its employees.

Challenges

  • Employees were unable to find the information they needed, leading to lost productivity and lower volumes of work being recreated.
  • Content administration was cumbersome and time-consuming,
  • The Intranet had poor employee adoption and was not being used.
  • There was no available mobile experience.

Results

Adoption rates were exceptionally high, with 75% to 85% of users engaging with key content.

The time spent searching for and recreating content was significantly reduced.

The mobile experience allowed employees to access corporate data from anywhere and from any device.

Solution

Through a series of stakeholder interviews, our project team defined user requirements and identified key pain points, including poor user experience, subpar performance, and low-quality content. By combining this information with insights and priorities set by the leadership team, we modernized their intranet to meet the company’s goals while also serving the needs of the employees.

  • Created an information hub: We created a central repository for the most frequently used documents, enabling employees to easily find the information they needed without wasting time recreating their own versions.
  • Improved Employee Communication and Engagement: By providing a fully functional Corporate Intranet that was designed around the needs of the users, there was an immediate increase in user adoption and utilization of the Intranet.
  • Improved Quality of Life: Employees now have access to documents from remote jobsites, removing the need for a VPN connection or trips back to the office to access company information. The intranet also supports WCAG 2.0 Accessibility Guidelines, accommodating users with various accessibility needs.
